The Woods Educational Enrichment Foundation of Chicago (WEEF) is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization that believes personal investment in a child’s educational growth, coupled with an academic tutoring curriculum catered to each child’s learning style and ability, will lead to academic success. As a minority engineer, I have often been the only in either the classroom or office. WEEF is planning to change the perception that low numbers of minority engineers and scientist is acceptable. We aim to make careers in the STEM fields viable and attainable options for minority students by hosting interactive STEM seminars, where students are introduced to minority STEM professionals and exposed to real world STEM topics, and providing free tutoring in math and science subjects. We have recently launched our 1,000 Reach Campaign. The goal of the campaign is to reach over 1,000 underserved and disadvantaged students in a 12-month period.
